Scedule for June: Venice, Basel, Büdelsdorf, Schwäbich Hall

In June 2013, painter Ritums Ivanovs works are displayed in three locations in Germany and Switzerland. The artist also plans to travel to 2 venues, the opening of Venice Biennale and the opening of Volta art fair in Basel.
From May 9th, Gallery Bastejs is hosting a new Ritums Ivanovs exhibition, Sumbol of Illusion, a warm-up exhibition before the art fair VOLTA 9 show in  Basel, Switzerland June 10-15 2013, where it will be exhibited next. Volta was established in Basel in 2005 and is exhibiting new emerging artists. It is one of the Art Basel's satellite art fairs that together with Liste 18, Scope, the Solo Project and Design Miami/Basel is making an unique international exhibition focusing on galleries as art markets' main institution. VOLTA is positioning itself as an art fair that highlights the new gems of the art world for collectors, curators and art lovers. All the artists participating in Volta are being selected by the members of the board as well as independent judges. Up to now gallery Bastejs has represented Ritums Ivanovs in the Scope Basel 2009 and Scope Miami 2009.

May 18, Volta reported that "Gallery Bastejs (Riga, booth C9) spotlights Ritums Ivanovs' vivid urban scenes at VOLTA9. Among other accomplishments like his 2011 catalogued show 'Lights On', last year the Latvian artist was commissioned by the State for the President's portrait."

VOLTA, founded in Basel in 2005 by dealers Kavi Gupta (Chicago), Ulrich Voges (Frankfurt), and Friedrich Loock (Berlin), is Basel’s platform for cutting-edge art and emerging international talent, and lights up the industrial Dreispitz Areal in its ninth edition this June. 74 exhibitors stage contemporary projects of compelling distinction, representing Europe and the Americas, plus the Middle East, South Africa, and East Asia, with 58 galleries returning from previous VOLTA incarnations.

In cooperation with Kunstwerk Carlshütte, a German non-profit organisation, three Ivanovs Depeche Mode striped portraits from year 2001 will be exhibited at a large scale exhibit starting June 8. The Kunstwerk Carlshütte is a cultural initiative of the internationally active ACO Group and the towns of Büdelsdorf and Rendsburg. With its historical buildings, the colossal foundry halls and the extensive sculpture park, the Kunstwerk Carlshütte has developed over the years into a very special place for exhibitions, concerts, readings, theatre performances and film screenings.  Taking place in the summer months since 1999, the NordArt is one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in Europe, with about 250 selected artists from around the world. Artist and curator Wolfgang Gramm redesigns it annually as an all-encompassing work of art. Corresponding to the Chinese Pavilion in 2012, this year’s special focus is on the Baltic States. The Baltic Pavilion features contemporary works of art by 35 artists from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

NordArt 2013 Opening 8th of June at 5 pm at Kunstwerk Carlshütte, Vorwerksallee 24782, Büdelsdorf, Germany

Until June 2, Ritums Ivanovs works can also be viewed in the German Würth Collection, encompassing works from Picasso, Ernst, Kapoor, Richter and now also Latvian op-art painter Ivanovs. The exhibition is focusing on the human body from head to toe and offers an entertaining challenge to discover clues in the current spectrum of artists' views of the world and obsessions. The exhibition "From Head to Toe. Human Images in the Focus of the Würth Collection" invites you to a fascinating "scenic discourse" concerning the changes and constants in the human image, occupying 2,600 square meters at the Kunsthalle Würth.

The exhibition "From Head to Toe. Human Images in the Focus of the Würth Collection" is open from 28 September 2012 to 2 June 2013 at Kunsthalle Würth,  Lange Straße 35,  74523 Schwäbisch Hall, Germany.

Ritums Ivanovs art tour of June 2013 starts with attending the opening of the Latvian pavillion at Venice Biennale May 31 at 3PM, followed by Basel Volta.
